This week we played Teotihuacan from NSKN, the most wanted game of the 2018 Essen Spiel. The attitude of our players wasn’t super hot, but I believe it’s due to it being a first play of a massively complicated game. There is a lot to remember when turning the crank, and I think a second play would definitely make the game go a bit more smooth.
I, for one, highly enjoyed it. After only a single play, I see how brilliant the game really is. It’s easy to see the cogs of the design, but to watch them all run so smooth is a beauty. The interaction is high enough to seriously affect your strategy, but low enough that you can still build as you wish. Oh, and did I mention the rondel?! Yay, rondels!
If you’re going to Essen, rush to grab this. NSKN has a serious winner here and I expect it to sell out fast. If you aren’t going to Essen, track this down as soon as it is available.
Thanks, as always, goes to Overboard Games for hosting the stream, organizing the play times, and (potentially) building the mods.
